Ol faithful huh? Except for those fuel rails! What's the deal with that? How many times have you had that replaced now? That seems ridiculous. Great pictures though.

Hey John - You guy would enjoy all the riding down here ... You can accumulate miles pretty easy, always somewhere to ride! Sun shining today with a high of 72 ...

The 1200 is my ol faithful even with the fuel strip problems. Lucky the fuel strip only controls your fuel gauge ... I always watch mileage on odometer! You can't even trust a new one because I've had them fail in less then couple days!!! Very poor design and why BMW went back the the tried and try "float" type sender. They need to make a retrofit instead just just keep replacing!!! I lost count but believe somewhere in the range of 10+ replacements so far. They keep failing and I'll keep replacing ... hopefully they figure it out soon. Only problems are here in US market because our ethanol (from what I've been told).

The reason they continue to fail, is the charcoal canister. If you remove it, the problem is solved.
If you search Chris Harris on You Tube, he shows the cause and repair.

Hi Don, We're glad your getting lots of riding in. It looks like your enjoying yourself.

I didn't understand exactly what the problem was with to fuel strip, just that your always talking about replacing it again. At least that isn't something that would leave you stranded, as long as you don't run it out of gas. I was thinking it was leaking fuel or something. Iv'e had two fuel problems with the LT. One was a clogged up charcoal canister and one a cracked plastic fuel quick disconnect. I now have brass disconnects and I am running with the charcoal canister bypassed. I hear topping off the tank plugs them up.

Hi Ed -

I will look into that, if that is the issue that can will be gone! I have no intention of that bike being registered anywhere it may need emission testing! Thanks for the heads up, I'll keep you posted!

John - BMW should have used brass connectors, all the plastic ones from all the manf eventually fail from cracking (old age and heat). I usually replace them with a marine grade brass or stainless. Overfilling the gas tank can cause fuel to get into the canister ... bypassing or removing like Ed suggest will take care of that problem!! Hopefully after researching I find that will solve my problem ... I don't understand the relationship but I will watch the video Ed pointed to me. If it's a viable fix then it will be done.
