I would like to thank Ed Syphan’s Friend Doug Sallmen, for coming to our meeting and sharing his Daniel’s law story. For those of you that missed it I will try to tell his story.
In our meeting John Humphrey welcomed Doug to our meeting and asked him what his T-shirt was about. There was a silence that came over the room as Doug instantly became very emotional… After a short pause Doug told us the story about his good friend, Daniel Gallatin, a father, grandfather, military veteran, and fireman of nearly 40 years. Daniel was pulling into his daughter driveway on his motorcycle. Tragically, a middle aged woman in a SUV was texting. She drove completely over him, killing him, right in front of his daughter’s house… The woman admitted to texting and was charged with, and pleaded guilty to, involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, and texting while driving. She only spent 6 months in prison and 6 months on house arrest with work release. She was also fined $800. During the sentencing, the judge in the case was quoted as saying, “changes need to be made in the severity of the laws governing cell phone use while driving.” This is how House Bill 853 came about.
Forgive me if missed anything. If you agree with Daniel’s law please do what you can to support it.

Here is You Tube Video of Daniel's wife and daughter asking for support for HB 853 which passed the House and is stalled in the PA Senate.

This happens everyday in every State. Other States have passed laws making the penalties fit the crime and its long past due the remainder of States do the same including PA. I think all vehicles should have some type electronics that disable a phone when the vehicle is moving ... there is nothing that is that important anybody needs phone while driving. We lived and drove vehicles "pre" cellphone, we all survived just fine!

Amen to that Don! Anyone using a hand-held cell phone while driving, and especially texting, and caught, should be able to be ticketed for a hefty fine. And anyone harming someone while using a hand-held cell phone while driving should face not only a hefty fine, but serious jail time IMHO.

Just a quick update on the bill.
The governor was in New Castle ( the home of Daniel) to sign the bill into law, on Friday.
Let's hope they publicize it so the public become aware of the situation.

I'm happy to see the new law(s) enacted but I personally don't think the teeth are BIG enough ... a life is worth a lot more then 5 years ... :(
