Sorry, I had just found out myself. I did swing by Sunday afternoon and checked the bikes out. Lots of GS’s plus K1600, RTs, some K bikes. Riders were probably resting in preparation.
The whole concept is pretty interesting if you wanted to check out on the link above. They get bonus points based on locations and the trick is to figure out how to get the most bonuses with the least miles. Rushing to Hyder, Alaska or Key West Florida may be tempting but considered a “Sucker bonus”
“There are currently 42 BMW’s, 24 Hondas, 16 Yamahas, 11 Harley Davidsons, 4 Kawasakis, 4 Triumphs, 2 Victory motorcycles, and one each Suzuki, Indian, Ducati, Husqvarna, plus a homemade BMW/diesel expected to start the rally. The most prevalent bike model of choice seems to be the BMW R1200/1250 GSA, followed by the GoldWing 1800.”
The link has updates.
There is a cool spotwalla link and within 5 hours or so they were all over the Midwest and east coast.
***Edited to correct that they only return to Pittsburgh for the finish. Other 2 checkpoints in between are in Tulsa and Denver.
