Our fellow rider and club member, Carl Hartz had it. At the North Breakfast Ride a month ago, he mentioned that he thought he'd sell it. When he said the same at this month's North B-Ride, I asked if I could run down in the afternoon and take a look. He kindly said yes, and so I did, taking a check with me. After checking out the riding position and loving the coverage of the fairing (it reminded me of the only fairing I'd ever had that one could ride in a downpour and stay dry, my old Vetter Windjammer on the '72 Honda 750CB), snapped it up on the spot--The riding position was right on, and Carl said he could smoke a cigarette while riding without the ash falling off--a neat description of the calmness of the cockpit when at speed. It only has 31K miles on it -- hardly broken in as far as BMWs are concerned--and one guy on the 'net blogged that he'd retired the first of his at 500,000 miles and that his present second R100RT had over 300,000 on it and was going strong. Can't beat those figures either! Had it up to 80+ and not at all wound out at one point on the way home up I-79--good thing the County Mounties and State Mounties weren't in evidence! She'll roll! Just that one ride and the one from home to European last Tuesday confirmed the fact that I'm going to love that bike! My buddy, John, at European approved when I took it over there Tuesday. He said he's got one like it and uses it daily to ride to work. Can't hardly wait until next summer to try out some long distance stuff on it.
